Good morning Tubman families,
There are many questions circulating after remarks by Governor Gavin Newsom and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond about if and when California campuses will reopen this school year. As of right now, Tubman is closed through May 1st. At that time, we will re-evaluate whether or not we should close for the remainder of the school year.
We will continue to carefully monitor guidance from federal, state, and local public health and education agencies. All decisions about reopening will be made in conjunction with local public health officials. I want to be very clear that the 2019-20 school year is not over, it has just transitioned from classroom instruction into online Distance Learning.
Starting on Monday, April 6th, Tubman teachers and staff will start our Distance Learning program. What is this you ask? Well, it is an opportunity for student leaders to continue their education online with consistent teacher support and instruction. Teachers will hold classes and provide resources for student leaders. This will mimic daily instruction, but done online This will all be done over a computer.
If you need a computer, please email me and we will provide a loaner computer for your child. If you need internet access, please visit Cox Communications as they are offering free internet to all families until the end of the school year. You will need to apply.
If you are not interested in online learning, then we will print off the work for your child. You will need to pick up the weekly packet of work in the front office.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. In the meantime, please trust that we are doing everything in our power to prioritize student safety, keep our community updated, and work toward the goal of getting our teachers and student leaders back together as soon as we can.
Please make sure to check Class DoJo about further updates regarding our Distance Learning Plan.
Please email me at rwoodard@tubmancharter.org if you have any questions or need a computer for your child.
Thank you and Go Tigers!
Sincerely, -- Ryan Woodard
